Thank you...

October 11, 2019

As we head into the Thanksgiving long weekend most of us take the time to reflect on what we are grateful for.  Like most of you I am grateful for family, health, great friends, the ability to laugh at myself and a career that I enjoy.  It’s the time of year when we catch our breath and ponder what lies ahead.

The 2019 Scarecrow Festival presented by Interior Savings was a day of smiles, fresh air, scarecrow building, foodies, crafts, entertainment, hockey and community spirit.  All of this happens because the Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA) has the greatest sponsors, community partners, vendors, foodies, entertainment and volunteers…The youngest volunteer was around 12 and the oldest was 75!!! We had over 100 volunteers on site to help the 4000-5000 attendees enjoy the day.

I wish I could name each individual person who made it all happen because I think each of you deserve the accolades.  On behalf of the URBA Board we would like to thank:  Interior Savings, Argus Properties, Welcome Home Team-Century 21, Plaza 33, Bell Media, KelownaNow, Hollywood Station, Fortis BC, City of Kelowna Active Living and Culture, Kelowna Chiefs, 1800 Got Junk, Save On Foods-Rutland, Valleyview Funeral Home – Dignity Memorial, Lil Bloomers Daycare,  Power-Vac, Blue Sky-Black Mountain, Aubin & Associates, Kelowna Cap News, Sun Rype, Okanagan Men Sheds, Value Village, MCC Thrift Shop, Rutland Hospital Thrift Store, The Salvation Army Thrift Store, Kelowna Gospel Mission Thrift Store, McDonalds, Kon Kast, Sunbelt Rentals, Ozanam House,  Rotaract, Kelowna Hostesses, TELUS Community Ambassadors, Lady of the Lake, Darci Sellers – Remax Kelowna, Norm Letnick MLA, and the students from George Elliott, RSS, KSS & OKM, Studio 9 School of the Arts & MC College & Garet Tanner!

We also want to acknowledge all the parents & grandparents that brought their families out to enjoy the beauty of Rutland Lions Park, we do this, so our community has an event that is local, free and fun. We also do it so the people who attend take the time to support our local businesses.

When you look at the list above you can see why Scarecrow 2019 was such a success. “Many hands make light work” and we appreciate each pair of hands that helped us out.
