Rutland is about to get colorful

August 16, 2019

In previous years URBA looked for ways to beautify space, we updated banners, planted trees, new lamps standards, garbage containers, bicycle racks, planters and hanging flowerpots. Many of those items are now being done with a partnership with the City of Kelowna.  So, now it’s time for a new idea.  The Board wanted to make a bold statement, we decided to join Montreal, Moncton, Vancouver and the other cities who embrace street art.  Street art makes our neighbourhoods vibrant; they add colour to building walls and streets that would otherwise go unnoticed.  Having this art in our community is a treat for locals young and old and will encourage tourists to visit Rutland.   Street Art attracts new local businesses, helps bring customers to pre-existing locations, and boosts the economy. Some cities even offer walking/biking public art tours as a great way to interact with a city and its art!

So what’s the plan?

URBA will be using some of their funds that was allocated for beautification as well as we grants from the City of Kelowna Community Arts Program & Central Okanagan Foundation
