The Uptown Rutland Business Association (URBA) is pleased to announce its Phase Two of the Uptown Mural Project is officially underway with the first mural painting beginning July 29th. The building is located at 170 Rutland Road North where tenants Rutland Vapes, Kinara Mortgages, Kim’s Hair Studio and Living Faith Miracle Centre lease space.
The public can safely distance while watching this imaginative and whimsical mural spring to life right in front of them, as muralist and visual artist Ali Bruce will be painting throughout the long weekend.
After completing seven murals in 2019, URBA is set to secure four to six buildings this summer. “We are very excited with the mural project in 2020 as it continues to contribute to Rutland’s unique identity with home-grown artists coming from the Okanagan and lower mainland painting world class street art,” says URBA President Jamie Needham.
With the mission to democratize art and revitalize the urban landscape, the mural project supports and improves the cultural, social and economic vitality of the Rutland community. “The murals are vibrant and bold works of public art that will transform Rutland into dynamic open-air art galleries,” adds Needham.
URBA would like to acknowledge the City of Kelowna and the Central Okanagan Foundation for their ongoing support of the mural project. The COF contributes to the quality of life in the Central Okanagan through the raising and stewardship of entrusted funds, innovative and diverse granting, and active community leadership.
The Uptown Mural Map will be updated with this year’s murals and an app will be developed so people can take a walking tour and draw attention to Rutland businesses.
